D is for...

Depression.

Last night I finished reading Madness: a bipolar life by Marya Hornbacher (who is the author of Wasted about her struggle with Anorexia and Bulimia) Yes I do tend to have a fascination with this topic. Some of it is a little Schadenfreude, Reading about people in worse condition than me, but mostly its that I can relate. When I read Elizabeth Wurtzel's Prozac Nation it changed my life, I finally found someone describing the feelings that I had been coping with for years, I finally found a name for what was going on. (I had a similar experience when I read Fiona Horne's Witch, but that's a completely other post!)

I have had several what I call 'Meltdowns' but what I now understand to be depressive episodes. All of which concur with major events in my life that really make it understandable. (i.e. when I first started uni and was in an emotionally abusive relationship, when I was in a really bad living situation, travelling alone in a very strange country, after the death of my friend and grandfather and during a 'break up' with a very close friend.)

The first time it happened I was 15, I had spent three weeks in hospital with a broken pelvis and started a new school while still on crutches. I was so scared and I did not know what was happening to me. Everything was just too overwhelming, I could not stop crying, My mum would force me to school each morning, and I would call her before an hour was up to come and get me. I thought at the time it was really cruel her forcing me to school but I think now it was probably a good strategy. This was 18 years ago, before depression and mental illness where widely discussed. I was angry at my mother for not recognising what was going on, for not taking me to the doctor. But I also think back now and realise she was probably shit scared. She had watched my father go through two nervous breakdowns when he was in his 20's.

I have been a lot better in recent years, I was very concerned about post-natal depression after I had Anouk also after recent events in my life, but I think a hyper-awareness of the warning signs and treatment seeked I have been able to control things. The other thing that has helped recently is the fact that I have this little person that depends upon me, even when I feel like just spending the day in bed, I cant!

It might or might not be a coincidence that this post co-insides with New Years Eve. There is something I find depressing about NYE. I always seem to become very emotional and I could not tell you why. Lets see how tonight goes... Happy New Year!

Counting...

I finally worked out a way you can track visitors to your Blog. I just wanted to get an idea if anyone was actually reading it or not!!! I found the details on this site http://www.toptut.com/ (which has all sorts of tips and info and templates and everything!)

I added this thing called Sitemeter. It gives me stats on how many visitors I have had and you can even look at a map and see where people are logging on. I had one from Russia and one from the Netherlands... of course I know both these people so not a big deal, but I don't know any one in Wagga Wagga so that's exciting!!!

If you want to see it just go to the bottom of this blog and click on the icon down the bottom. I also joined a couple of Blog Directories like Blogorama and Topblogarea to see if that does anything. (It hasn't so far!!!!)

Christmas De-brief...

First of all... whoops on the last post but couldn't work out how to get rid of the big gap between the pics without lots of fiddling! Words and pics by You know who! (not me, the other one!!)

Why cant Christmas just be about the relaxing and getting together with people you want to spend time with instead of the stress, bitching and guilt tripping it becomes???? Cant Bitch Auntie see that, well its a big step that my Nan actually gave gifts this year! (but then I am the one who got the cash so I'm not complaining!). Can't the other one see that with Bubba-do's birthday so close to Christmas we need to make sure it is acknowledged properly and not just get caught up in the excitement of it all? And that there really is no need for so called 'proper' Christmas dinner on Boxing day when you saw all the same people for yummy breakie the day before (highlighted again by the fact that my dad forgot, made his own lunch before remembering and then having to go in for lunch #2!). And why cant Bitch Auntie see how rude it is to say "good I'm hungry" when I mention that I am going to start cooking the pancakes for Christmas breakfast and that maybe once she's already had two and I'm still cooking them it might be nice to say "Hey I'll take over so you can eat too..." hhhhmmmmm.

OK time to stop winging now! I also had some really nice Christmas moments, lots of good people and pressies and I have to admit there does feel more reason to celebrate now I have miss Bubba-doo in my life.

Speaking of which... Little miss turns two today! can you believe it? The time has gone by so fast, but then I have also achieved and been through a lot in that time too.

Hey who wants me to post my birth story? Its too gross, just honest! I will put up a poll to see the reaction!

Podcasts, Action Figures and Geocaching!

Ive gone and skipped ahead to Webolution activity 9... well I was half way through it anyway!

I wanted to find Podcasts of Nancy Pearl's (of the Librarian action figure fame) book review radio spot. I have actually been reading Nancy's Book Crush this week. (Always bad for me to read a book about books as It only adds more to my list of must reads!). Book Crush follows on from Book Lust and More Book Lust by focusing on books for kids and teens.

Anyways, I found the Podcasts to listen to listen to through her website Booklust but I could not add them to my bloglines account for some reason. (also I tried to look up those three podcast sites but only one would work). Anyways, If anyone else wants to listen to them here's the link:

http://www.kuow.org/rss.php?program=nancy

One of her shows she talks about going Geocaching (aka. Hunting for treasure) which is sort of a bit of a hobby of mine (and something my partner and I actually do together!

All you need is a GPS, a sense of adventure and curiosity and some good shoes... check it out here:

M is for...

My Mum!

Here are three cool things my mum has done this week (and its only Tuesday morning!)

Found me a song about Roller Derby after reading about it on my blog;

Joined the Webolution by creating her own blog (I might have given a pointer or two!)

Took Anouk home with her so I can have some time out!!!

G is for...

Gardening!

Not something that I have ever really done a lot of before, and certainly never successfully. But something I have always wanted to do, and when we bought our house this year could finally, was have a veggie garden. I am loving it! I am finding it immensely satisfying as I can see the fruits - literally!- of my labour...

Check out these Roma's!

This in the industry is called a Beanstalk!

I am even trying to propagate some of my own Cacti for my front garden!!!

Phonagraph records are found at many modern libraries!

Check out this hilarious "your life work" film from the 1940's or 50's...

Comments include;

I'm a librarian and even I was bored by this!

and;

Did you notice that almost all the librarians had glasses? But that the patrons didn't?

Gettin' Fishy at the National Library Australia...

I want to know where my friend Bruce was during all this... hmmm?

Serendipity...

I was having another bad day today, just feeling all weird and cotton woolly head-like. I had my follow up appointment with the obstetrician in Spotswood and I knew that was going to contribute to my crap feelingness. (By the way, no conclusive results from the post-mortem yet, but not all the tests have come back. There is some evidence of Placenta Abruption and he doesn't think it was the cord thing that was originally thought to be the problem) Anyways, I decided to Cheer myself up after my appointment I would treat myself to a milkshake and a sit on the red couch with my book at my new favourite cafe The Famous Blue Raincoat. There were two ways I could have walked and started off one way but something made me turn around and walk the way I had not been before. Whilst walking along I passed a young man, a few steps on I realised it was the brother of my departed friend Lee who I had been thinking about a lot lately and who even graced this blog a couple of weeks ago. We chatted, after my explanation of why I was there I told him I was heading to this cafe I liked. "Is that The Famous Blue Raincoat?" He asked! I skipped off on my way after that feeling a lot better about the world!!

Missy Piggy Take 2 + Roller Derby Dolls!!!

Well looky here, thanks to my good friend library-Jo I now know how to 'embed' a YouTube clip into my Blog. (I also now realise I could have skipped ahead to Webolution task #9 and learn how to do it months ago...)

So here is that Miss Piggy clip again... Remember to watch out for swears!

And here's the trailer for this great show I watched last night on ABC2 called "Roller Derby Dolls". The Boy was trying to not let me watch it 'coz he knows I want to join a Roller Derby team and reckons I will just go and break my pelvis again and he'll be stuck looking after me! (...Always thinking of others!!)

Gettin' Fresh

I've come across a few articles recently on web OPAC's and how crap they generally are! I guess this is one area that our Library/Web 2.0 knowledge could really be utilised.

It would be great if a patron could click on an item in our web OPAC and be taken to reviews of the item (such as the Chili fresh thing that some UK libraries use). and it could also go the other way, items mentioned in the library Blogs, wiki's, website and our new E-newsletter could be linked directly back to the catalogue with a kind of 'like the sound of this item? click here to reserve it!' type of thing.

Here is an article I enjoyed about OPAC's that I came across while doing the reading for the week 6 activity on Technorati called
"is your OPAC fun?".

I also found a funny blog called the
"Swiss Army Librarian" Click here to see what he has to say about Chili Fresh.

Feeling like...

I'm feeling like crap at the moment. I just can't seem to get it together. I have been having a lot of trouble sleeping, and I got my first period today since loosing the baby, just as a nice little reminder! I just have no patience for anything or anyone at the moment, including Anouk which isn't fair on her. The Boy and I have been fighting a lot and I even ran away on Saturday! Well not really ran away, but it felt like it and it felt really good! All I want to do is crawl up in bed and read... I have a busy week coming up with a few appointments that should help to clear my head (I hope!). But for now, I'm making my first ever ginger tea!

This week ive been reading...

Two memoirs that I really enjoyed...

Tweak by Nic Sheff about the authors struggles with Drug addiction, cleaning up and relapses, and Biting Anorexia by Lucy Howard-Taylor about her recovery from Anorexia.

I think I have said before that reading fiction leaves me cold and unfulfilled, but give me a true story filled with pain and suffering and I am all there!

Wiki's...

I have been playing with Wiki's...

Ive even edited some stuff in Vali Myers Wikipedia page. Vali was the most amazing woman Ive ever met, I used to go visit her a lot at her studio in the Nicholas Building on Swanston st. She was so lovely, warm and generous and allowed me to photograph her on several occasions (Back when I considered myself a photographer!). I miss her a lot.

Click here to see the Wikipedia page. I have a lot more to add!

I think we could do some fantastic stuff with a wiki format on our web page for reviews and new items, even if it could only be edited by staff to semi-control the content.

Miss Piggy

My very first feminist icon has a new single out... watch out for swears!!!

mmmmm del.icio.us....

Tonight I was learning all about the social bookmarking manager site thingi called del.icio.us.

Apparently this is a folksonomy. Now, at uni I had to do a whole assignment on Taxonomies and Folksonomies and all sorts of other 'onomies... tell you what... I still don't get it, but I am learning a lot more from joining the Webolution than I ever did in uni!!! I think that's because I learn by doing not by being told (which is why I ask a million silly questions even after training!!)

I made my own del.icio.us account and even saved some very important websites to it. I have tagged them with a "webolution" tag but no one else has yet so I hope someone does soon!

The whole tagging thing is similar to what I have done on my blog with the labels, making it easy to navigate your way around my blog (say you just want to see my webolution posts coz you don't care about all the other bits of my life!!!)

I can see where this could be very useful in the library particuly on the Ref desk, maybe to save some of the most used and trusted sites? Tomorrow morning I will attempt to use Technorati and see if my blog is part of the "Magic Middle"

Everything you need to know...

You can learn from BUST magazine...

The latest issue introduced me to this great Blog, http://coldantlerfarm.blogspot.com/ its a girl living in Vermont who has taken self sufficiency to a whole new level! She's a really entertaining writer and has just released a book called Made from scratch (watch out for that one on the requests list Leslie!). This is the kind of thing I would love to do one day, move to the country and be a hippie! but for now... here's my first attempt at a Veggie Garden, its doing remarkably well with lots of compost and Anouk's bath water!

Did you know the Dewey number for Hot Rods is
629.2286
This information may come in handy for my next fishy idea!

Famous... or is it shamless self promotion?

Well I guess it cant really be called shameless self promotion if I didn't write it!?

This weeks reading...

You sexy mother by Jodie Something-or-other. I picked up this book coz I liked the title and the cover (very important!!!!) but it turned out to be a kind of self help book of the "buy a few plastic tubs and de-clutter and your life will be miraculously transformed" find of crap that really shits me, not to mention the book was aimed at stay-at-home mums, of which I have no interest in being (but no qualms about anyone else making that choice, just its not for me!)
The one thing I did notice about it was how much of the 'advice' was similar to the FISH philosophy. even though it wasn't set in a work environment, the ideas of choosing your attitude and being present, and of course play! (something that kids masters at and we could all learn a lot from a toddlers attitude to life, they know whats important!!)

Angelique

I am thinking of buying this picture from Outre gallery for myself for Christmas...

It will be a big investment for me... what do you think?

D*A*A*S

I bought the recently released Doug Anthony All Stars DVD for my brother for Christmas, and Ive just been checking it's all working OK. (I also like to do this with books I buy for gifts, just like to make sure there are no pages missing!)

Anyways...

I think I had forgotten how funny they are, some of it has dated but also some of it I didn't get when I was 15 and watching the Big Gig. Bit like watching the Young ones when I was 7, it was all about the visual comedy then, (I didn't get the intellect until much later!!!!)

Its also been bring back a lot of memories about my friend Lee, he was a massive DAAS fan, so much that they played their version of Throw your arms around me at his funeral.

Lee died from Cystic Fibrosis just before his 30th birthday. I was holding his hand when he died, he had been unconscious for over 12 hours, but about a minute before he died he moved his finger along my hand, like he was telling me he was still there.

I told him before he went to sleep the night before, when he knew he was going to die, to make sure he got in touch with me... typical man, he's never called!

Recent events in my life have got me thinking a lot about important people and events in my life, Ive been getting in touch with people I don't want to lose touch with... give me a call Kiersten!!!!

Library Jo

I should have posted this a week ago but with recent events in my life I think my brain might be running about a week behind!

I wanted to say a big fat congratulations to my friend Library Jo for winning the Marjory C. Ramsay scholarship. I think this is so exciting and will not only be great for Jo but the whole library service. Well done and don't forget if you need a P.A. I have some time on my hands!

Grumpy!

Perhaps I need to explain...
Grumpy is my dad's 'grandpa' name, thing is it doesnt actually suit him when Anouk is around!

This week I have been reading...

Dear Fatty by Dawn French

I am loving this one, it reminds me a lot of the Lucy family alphabet and I was actually thinking it could be a good book club topic to compare the two. A different way to construct a memoir, this time using letters to significant people in her life. Both women obviously are using comedy to cover a lot of pain in their lives. There is only a couple of annoying bits, but all in all, its a very honest and enjoyable book.

Also...

I recently read Further adventures of a London Call girl by Belle De Jour. Crap, Bollocks, Poo. Complete false advertising!! She's not even a goddamn call girl anymore, what a waste of my time! I am not really interested in reading about her sitting on some foreign beach while her boyfriend is shagging around on her back home!! Dump him and get back to the business woman! (If you really are a woman that is... see previous post on this topic!)

And...

Life with my sister Madonna by Christopher Ciccone. Not quite the trashy read I was after, I thought it was going to be full of bitchy gossip and tell all expose, instead it was kind of sad. Chris obviously loves his sister but her personality is just so strong that even as they grow apart and he apparently wants to come out of her shadow, he goes and writes a book about her! Strange! Entertaining though, just dont expect this book to change the world!

The Wig

Over the past few weeks I have had discussions with three people at work regarding a certain costume shop and a lovely lady who works there. She has a real name, but I know her as 'The Wig'. She is the loveliest of ladies and I just wanted to post these photo's of her wedding last year to prove how fabulous she is (and why she has that nickname!).

I just read the latest Cruzin and if you check out page 8 (or was it page 6? anyways, wherever the editors message was) well there we are!!! I am going to send some photo's in to the mag and a little birdie told me that the next Rods Ramblings might also be singing the HotRodLibrarian's praises!!!

Thank you

Just wanted to say thanks for the lovely words, flowers, food, phone calls, messages. Just everything.
Everyone says, including me, that they don't know what to do or say, and it's true, there is not much anyone can say, I guess that's why I felt the need to put it out there, as good as talking about it is, repeating it over and over is hard. I don't know if I would call it brave to write it all down, but I've always been pretty open with things, and it may sound silly but hopefully it might help others who find it difficult to open up.
I am thinking about going in to work tomorrow for a bit of a social visit but I'm really quite nervous about it. I know that emotional flood is going to hit, not looking forward to that, but I need to get back out into the real world sometime, trouble is the real world is looking a little daunting right now.
So I might see some of you tomorrow, or I might chicken out. And if I do see you tomorrow I might cry... well you'll just have to live with that!
Mind you, if I do come in I will be armed with cupcakes!!

:-(

I feel I should write something, it will probably do me good and be cathartic and all that stuff.

So here goes;

I had an appointment on Thursday with my obstetrician, just routine. All seemed fine, I asked when we do that thing where we listen to the heartbeat, he said probably next month and have I been feeling movement every day, I said No not everyday. he put me up on the bed to have a listen, couldn't find anything, took me down to the childbirth centre to try the bigger monitor, still couldn't find anything, got me in for an ultrasound, when the operator said "I'm just going to get my supervisor coz I'm new and just learning." that's when I knew something was wrong.

No Heartbeat.

I was in shock, the doctor was even more shocked, you see I'd had an inkling something was wrong, but of course I pushed it to the back of my mind. I had said to my partner last week that I wasn't feeling much movement and he said not to worry and everything was fine etc. Ive also been completely paranoid about this whole pregnancy, but again, just tried not to think about that. I figured it was because this one was planned and Anouk wasn't.

I was checked into hospital that night, given tablets to induce labour and just had to wait. I was lucky to have a double room so my partner could stay with me the whole time.

It was tough, childbirth is tough, but knowing the outcome in this situation, kind of almost unbearable. Bring on the drugs I say, I could have anything I wanted!

I chose to see the baby afterwards, My partner didn't want to and I respect that. it was hard but I think it will help, they also gave me some photo's which really don't do him justice, and some hand and foot prints which are just precious.

The doctor, and me want a full post mortem done to try to find out what went wrong, but from seeing him it looks like he got his cord twisted up, that simple, just got a bit overactive one day and cut off his blood supply.

I am home now and attempting to move on, Everything has changed now. Some parts of my life seem clearer and some not. I am riding from one crazy emotion to the next, and have the physical stuff to deal with too. In fact I think that has been the hardest so far, I'm still waiting for the emotional stuff to really kick in, I mean, if you told me this, the whole pregnancy etc. was a dream, I would believe you.

Signing off now, There is more to say, but it has helped writing this down (over a couple of days mind you!) I know its going to be a hard road ahead, but I am taking care of myself and my partner and I are taking care of each other. He's been really good to me and I feel awful that I have been such a bitch to him lately. I hope this will bring us closer together. Anouk has been the best to have around. I don't think she has a lot of idea whats going/gone on. I am just so glad that this has happened on my second pregnancy. besides, you have to get out of bed when a toddler is relying on you.

Hot Rods and Libraries?

Well looky there, I pulled it off!
What started as a tongue in cheek comment, teaches me I should keep my mouth shut really!!!
My Hot Rod Event was a success, 60 people came, 10+ Rods in the Senior Cits carpark (no reflection on those that drive Hot Rods intended!), and I loved the fact that one of the first comments received was from a guy who had first discovered his love of cars in the Altona library!!!

Now for the shameless self promotion!!

Last week I read...

I have got a bit slack on keeping up with my book posts... maybe it's a sign that I am reading too much, no it's a sign that I am wasting too much time on boring stuff like living and not enough time publishing posts on my blog!

The F word: how we learned to swear by feminism by Jane Caro and Catherine Fox. It was OK, nothing revolutionary or new, but if it gets one new Chicky babe reading about feminism than it has done it's job!

It's a mostly personal account of two women who have successfully juggled careers and families while trying to stay true to their feminist principle, something which is really hard I have to admit. I can't believe how the stereotypical gender roles play out once the little bundle of joy comes along! Jane and Catherine are very open with the fact that they are living middle class lives in a privileged time for women. The groundwork has been layed by the two previous waves of feminism, and women have got to keep this momentum flowing, creating a world, not just of equality, but of balance and choices too. There is also much discussion of the whole raunch culture thing that is going on at the moment, something I am divided on, one one side, I like that women are taking over control of highly sexualised images, and I have always wanted to take pole dancing classes. But I also hate the sexualisation of the tween set and think people like Paris Hilton are just completely useless, I mean what has she actually done? anyways, that's a discussion for later.

I also started Halloween: from Pagan festival to party night but decided to abandon that one half way through the first chapter, something I hardly ever do but it was too cold and academic and given the fact that I have 10 other books sitting beside my bed waiting to be read, thought it wasn't worth it!

I just started Why we buy: the science of shopping which i am finding very interesting coming from a retail background and having had much discussion of this type of environment around the library recently.

I have also been put onto the show LAink which I am loving... I want Kat Von D to do my next tattoo!

H is for Hormones...

Hormones... Those fabulous unseen but much felt things that make the world go round, and round, and round, and....
Pregnancy hormones are the worst, just ask my partner!
I blame the fact that I am having a boy and have all this testosterone going around in my system. Of course this doesn't make me any better at stereotypically boy activities... my latest hissy fit involved a lawnmower that I couldn't start!
Just about anything can set me off at the moment, random crying at doggies on the telly, sobbing during the Sex and the City movie, and I watched Juno the other day and you should have seen me in the birth scene... not to mention the now infamous plate throwing incident... pretty tame actually when you consider I only threw it in the sink and not at the boy's head!

In case of emergency...

No need to break the glass, just break out a mug!
You can even use Milo if your really stuck!

5 Minute Chocolate Mug Cake

you’ll need....
4 Tablespoons cake flour
4 Tablespoons sugar
2 Tablespoons cocoa
1 Egg
3 Tablespoons milk
3 Tablespoons oil
3 Tablespoons chocolate drops (optional)
1 Mug

Here’s what you do....

Add dry ingredients to the mug, and mix well.
Crack an egg and add it to your mug. Be sure to mix it
well to avoid any pockets of flour in the corners.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.
Add the chocolate drops if you’ve got them, and a splash
of vanilla essence too.
Pop your mug into the microwave & zap for 3 minutes on
maximum power (1000watt).
Wait until the cake stops rising, and sets in the mug.
If necessary, run a knife around the sides of the mug, and
tip the still warm cake out of the mug and onto a saucer.

Sit back and enjoy with a coffee - you deserve it!

Cups...

This week I have been reading...

Cups with no handles, a memoir of Bette Boyanton, Social Activist and interesting woman,
a country lady who with such a simple idea changed peoples lives. Bette grew up in an extremely poor family living through WW2 and the depression in Melbourne and fought against the odds to come through. She was one of the founders of the community house movement and a livelong anti-war activist.

Initially I was attracted to the blurb on the back, but this was really not representative of the story. The other thing that confused my was that I thought a Memoir was supposed to be autobiographical. Carolyn Landon wrote this book, but is using Bette's voice, which I found a little bit annoying at the start, but soon got over it.

The Cups with no handles refers to her poor childhood and always having to drink from broken cups.

I would recommend this book, it's good.

Heartbreaker - Dionne Warwick
Turning Japanese - The Vapors

I am not ashamed!!!

More in the chicks I think are great series

Tori don't compare me with Kate Bush Amos

Anyone who calls their greatest hits Tales of a librarian and catalogues all of the songs under their Dewey number is ace in my book!

I am almost finished reading what has to be the most bizarre, yet totally enjoyable autobiography ever. Piece by piece covers most aspects of her life, along with lots of other random ramblings about religion, spirituality and life in general. But it's great! Kind of lucky I already know a bit about her and have read widely on the stuff she is going on about, because otherwise I would be completely lost!!

I have to admit I haven't kept up with the later few albums of hers, But my favourite of her songs is defiantly Tear in your hand off her first album Little earthquakes.

She's a kooky one, but I love her!!!

Welcome to my nightmare!

I have the perfect nuclear family,

I have a house in the suburbs and a respectable job,

This week I have been watching...

Secret diary of a Call girl with Billie Piper which is apparently based on the Belle De Jour "memoir". Yes although I have atrocious spelling and grammar, I did mean to write "memoir", maybe it should even be "memoir". You see, although it was an OK book, I think it is most definitely fiction and not be at all surprised if I found out it was actually written by a man. despite this, I have requested my library purchase Further adventures of a London Call girl, this may make me a hypocrite... But I do love a good trashy read.

But back to the T.V. show (which I bought on DVD because 10.30 is way past my bedtime at the moment!!!). When it says based on, it could also say "loosely suggested by" as it doesn't bare a lot of resemblance to the book beyond the first episode. But I have to say, I am liking it, I like how it's constructed and how it shows a duality between the character of Belle/Hannah (something you don't get in the book) and well, sometimes it's just plain saucy... It's probably the closest thing for me to replace Sex and the City. And yes you do get to see Billie Pipers tit's, they are quite small...

RSSSSSSSsssssss........

Today I have been working on the webolution task 4, learning about RSS feeds and creating a bloglines account.

I didn't realise I would have to concentrate so much and had to turn the music off and everything! Lucky I picked a child care day to have a go at it!!!

My problem is I am too impatient and don't read the instructions as I go, more just go ahead and do it then go back to the instructions to figure out why it didn't work!

Anyways, so far I have subscribed to Jo and Lea's blogs, another library blog that I accidentally added because it had a similar URL to Jo's. Rolling Stone, The Age, Library Stuff and Readers Club biographies. There were also a couple of others that I tried to subscribe to and it told me I already had but do you think I could find them???!!!

I am not sure if this is something I will use, but I can see how some people might, but I will go back to it and have another look when my headache has subsided.

HTML ZZZZ

Looky what I did, I made it go all big!!!

I have been trying to work out for ages how to make my blog go full page instead of a crappy little column in the middle of the screen, and it turns out that having a vague knowledge of what HTML is and does has finally come in handy, it didn't mean I worked it out for myself, just that I didn't find all scary while I was doing it!!

I found the answer on this website:
http://betabloggerfordummies.blogspot.com/2006/10/how-to-change-width-of-blog.html
Which other webolutionary types might also find useful

Of course its made that travel post that I took so long arranging go all weird now, but I cant be bothered doing anything about that right now!

I also, thanks to Jo, have created a blog list to make it easier for me to follow other peoples blogs, its under my bookshelf thing on my sidebar.

Now I just need to figure out how to put a counter on it so I can see if anyone is actually looking at it! (or you could just write a comment and say Hi!!!

Librarian weddings

I found this great post on Scott Douglas's blog. Scott wrote Dispatches from a Public Librarian, a fun book about his life and times at the Anaheim Library. But Scott was very heavy on the footnoting which was quite unnecessary if you ask me. I'm being picky now!!!

You have to check this out though:

Coming out of the chicklit closet

This week I'm reading...
Chasing Harry Winston by Lauren Weisberger.

Why do I keep doing this to myself? For someone who claims to read mostly non-fiction, I certainly read an exorbitantly high proportion of 'chicklit'. Yet like 95% of the fiction I have read, this one has left me unfulfilled.

I enjoyed The devil wears Prada, probably because, for once it wasn't centred around romantic relationships and was not all rosy and happy. I don't mind the occasional good trashy read, but this one... oh please... the characters are boring and the lifestyles unrealistic, its like she watched one too many episodes of Sex and the city, but forgot about the comedy! (by the way I love S+TC and that was not meant to sound like I was trashing it!)

I even managed to find several mistakes in it, (which for someone with spelling as atrocious as mine is really saying something!) the most offensive of which, "Shirley Basset" oh my god... it makes Shirley Bassey sound like a dog!!!

I don't recommend this book!

Photo's all with courtesy of Flickr and the Webolution learning objective #3!

I had this great idea to put these photo's I found into a map, easy enough to do in the Organisr part of Flickr, but I couldn't upload it onto my blog, which was the whole point of this post!
Flickr seems easy enough to use, but trying to arrange multiple photo's in a blog post is not fun! I kept unwittingly deleting and had to constantly rearrange them, They are still not how I really wanted them but I am about to throw the computer out the window so you will have to put up with it!!!
